Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Suitable for all settings including social care services, adult education settings, Children's homes and education settings, NHS and CQC regulated settings.

Positive Behaviour Support training helps us understand the reasons for behaviours, so we can better meet people's needs, enhance their quality of life & reduce the likelihood of the behaviour happening.

 

This training will teach learners how to develop positive proactive strategies to support their service users. 

All training is delivered with the express purpose of reducing the need for restrictive physical interventions.

 

What will I learn on the course?

  1. What Positive Behavioural Support is, what the PBS Competency Framework is, who requires PBS assessment and intervention and how to implement this
  2. Risk assessments, planning, development and evaluation
  3. Assessment exercises, identifying types of behaviour
  4. Supportive personalised care and environments
  5. Multi-Disciplinary professionals and team meetings, the importance of consistency

  6. Strengths and weaknesses of service 

  7. The therapeutic relationship and its purpose/value

  8. Person centred approach, group approach, behavioural approach

  9. Transference, counter transference and transactional analysis

  10. Pro-active & preventative strategies; models to increase likelihood of a positive outcome from all interactions

  11. Restraint reduction

  12. Incident reports

Course information

  • One day course (7 hours)
  • Delivered in-house
  • Maximum of 18 delegates per trainer, although we recommend 12 as a group size
